Summer in the city slows everything down. The days run long, the pace loosens, and the calendar goes quiet. Treat that as an opening, not a reason to disappear indoors.
The best gatherings this time of year are usually the ones you start. Host the dinner. Text the group chat. Open your door to someone new. Community is less something you find and more something you build, and summer is the easiest season to try.
Below are a few gatherings worth showing up for, plus a simple way to invite community in. Keep an eye out for our next singles mixer in August. Go make it a good one.
What is "Summer at the Table?"
Our friends at Wellspring Church NYC are doing something beautiful this summer. They're calling it Summer at the Table, and the heart of it is simple: gather people around a meal. Invite a few friends, and a few people you don't know yet. Put the phones away. Ask honest questions, and really listen to the answers.
You don't have to be part of their church to live this out. Take the heart of it and make it yours. Pick a night, set a table, and make room for someone new. Look past the usual lines of neighborhood, background, and generation, and simply extend the invitation. Some of the most holy moments happen over a shared meal.
