When the Concrete Jungle Gets Real Roots
New York City is one of the most densely populated places on earth, and yet loneliness is one of the most common things people here carry. That's true in the city broadly, and if we're honest, it's true within the Body of Christ too. We worship together, serve together, and still a lot of us carry it quietly.
We called this event Rooted because winter is when it actually happens: no visible growth above ground, but the roots going deeper. In a city that rewards surface-level everything, we wanted to create a space grounded in something more lasting.
"So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength… to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge…"
— Ephesians 3:17–19
And that's genuinely what we saw over both nights. The room had an energy that's hard to describe and impossible to manufacture: two age groups, hundreds of people showing up in faith, hoping to connect, willing to be a little vulnerable in a city that doesn't always make that easy.
We're already hearing real testimonies. New friendships formed, conversations that led to follow-up plans, and yes, a few early stories that sound like they might become something significant. That kind of fruit doesn't come from good event logistics. It comes from God honoring hearts that show up in faith.
One of the most meaningful parts of Rooted wasn't the event itself but what it represented: churches and ministries across the city choosing to collaborate and serve together. This isn't a Christians in Tech event. It's a Body of Christ thing, and we're grateful to Liberty Church, Hope Church, and every ministry partner who helped make it real.
One consistent reality we keep running into: getting godly men to show up is genuinely hard. If you're connected to a community of faithful men, we'd love your help getting the word out next time. Advocate in your church, bring your networks, and help us build something the whole city can benefit from.
Just because you met someone at a Christian event doesn't mean they're automatically a disciple of Jesus. Use wisdom, ask real questions, watch for fruit. And at the same time, don't let fear dress itself up as discernment. Coffee is not a commitment. Take a step, be kind, be clear, and move with both wisdom and courage.
