Let’s Talk About Work and Faith
Work and Faith: The Ultimate Balancing Act
Let’s be real for a second—work takes up a huge chunk of our lives, if not the bulk. And by huge, I mean 90,000 hours on average. That’s more time than we spend with family, and friends, or death scrolling on IG and TikTok. So naturally, if work is where most of our energy goes, shouldn’t it be a space where we reflect our values and live out our faith?
For me, this question hits close to home. My career started when I was 14, running a painting company because no one would hire me for my first job. It snowballed into employing 21 kids from my high school and launching me into entrepreneurship. For most of my career, I thought, I’ll work hard, make mad bank, and THEN somehow give back. Spoiler alert: not what God had in plan for me. So much of my career has been me, just trying to figure it out.
Somewhere along the way, God put this on my heart: if what I value most is my time, then shouldn’t my work reflect my values? That hit me hard because I realized I was spending my time chasing titles, zeros in my bank account, and external validation. God was like, "Cool story, but what are you really building here?"
That conviction changed everything. It led me to start my current company, Do Good Points, and launched me on a journey of exploring how my faith intersects with my work. I began meeting regularly with a spiritual mentor, joining a group of CEOs focused on servant-based leadership, and diving deeper into what it means to bring Christ into the center of my work. This also led me to start Christians in Tech since moving to NYC.
It hasn’t been perfect, but I’ve learned this: work isn’t just about output. It’s about purpose. It’s about stewardship. And yes, it’s about worship.

Reflections from the Work and Faith: Enlivening Work (Workshop + Networking) Event
Last week, we hosted our first Work and Faith event, and let me just say—it was incredible. Small, intentional, and packed with wisdom. Huge shoutout to our speakers, Goldenwood, Amilee Watkins, and David Kim, who took us deep into what it means to integrate faith and enliven our work.
One teaching that stuck with me was David’s framework for how the essence of society is structured: five spheres—family, art, religion, government, and economics. At the core, each of these has a purpose:
• Family nurtures
• Art inspires imagination
• Government promotes justice
• Economics creates opportunity
• Religion fosters worship
In understanding the origin of our societal structure helps us to recognize how work integrates into all aspects of our lives. It’s also the thread that connects them, and when we do it with intentionality, it becomes an act of worship. I know, “work as worship” sounds a little intense, but think about it. If you’re spending 40, 50, or (the NY workaholics) 70 hours a week at work, that’s prime time to reflect God’s glory.

Let’s Talk Ambition and Faith
I’ll admit it: I’m very competitive. I’ve always been driven, chasing the next big thing, setting high goals, and pushing hard. And honestly, I think that ambition can be a good thing. God doesn’t ask us to be mediocre—He calls us to be excellent in all we do.
But here’s where it gets tricky: ambition without purpose is empty. I’ve had seasons where my identity was tied up in my work. My title. My paycheck. My peer endorsements. And every time, God has humbled me, asking: More for what? More for who?
Philippians 4:12 has been a guidepost for me:
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”
Whether I’m on a career high or in a transition period, that verse reminds me to pause. Am I being a good steward of the work God has given me right now? Am I honoring the season I’m in, even if it’s not where I want to be yet?
Opportunities, Challenges, and Being Present
One of the things Goldenwood shared at the event really hit home: the importance of being present. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in our work that we lose sight of the bigger picture. But when we stop, breathe, and take a moment to reflect, we realize something: God is already working.
There was this guided prayer exercise where we reflected on God’s creation—the vastness of it, the beauty of it. It reminded me how small my day-to-day worries are in comparison to God’s plan. Psalm 46:10 says it perfectly:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
If you’re in a tough season—waiting for a promotion, pivoting careers, or feeling stuck—what if God is asking you to be still? To trust Him with what’s next? Sometimes, the glass isn’t half empty or half full. Maybe God is asking us to pour it out entirely so He can fill it with something better.
Work as Witness
Here’s something to think about: how many of your coworkers know you’re a Christian? Do you know if any of them are?
The workplace is one of the biggest mission fields we have, simply because of how much time we spend there. Whether you’re leading a team, collaborating on a project, or making coffee runs, you have an opportunity to bear witness.
And let me be clear: this isn’t about standing on your desk and quoting Bible verses. It’s about showing up with integrity, grace, and kindness. It’s about being the coworker who listens, who encourages, who reflects God’s love in small but meaningful ways.

A Challenge for All of Us
So, here’s my challenge: let’s bring worship into our work. Let’s find ways to honor God in our daily grind.
It doesn’t have to be flashy. It could be as simple as offering to pray for a coworker going through a tough time. Or taking five minutes in your day to reflect on God’s goodness. Or even just finding joy in doing your job well.
