Our Genesis Story 🌱

Our why, how, and what's next.

Hey Everyone,

Before we dive into anything else, let’s start with the why behind Christians in Tech. This whole thing is much bigger than me. It’s really about how God is at work—moving through all of us in unexpected ways.

Spoiler alert: God is absolutely present. In our lives, in our work, and especially here in New York City. It’s easy to look around at the chaos and wonder where Jesus is. But let me tell you: He’s not hiding. He’s not timid. He’s definitely not weak. He’s here—loving, patient, and showing up in ways that remind us that He’s got this.

A little backstory for those who don’t know: I recently moved to NYC at the end of January (shout out to the brave souls who’ve moved during winter). It wasn’t exactly planned—God opened some doors, and before I knew it, I was here. The back-and-forth bi-coastal life sounded glamorous… until you’re flying coast-to-coast every two weeks. It sounds a lot cooler than it is.

But God made it clear it was time for me to settle here, and the first priority was to find a church home and faith community. Through my good friend DK, I got plugged into Hope Church, Midtown. (Big shoutout to DK for helping me get grounded in this hectic city.)

Phase Two: As the founder of Do Good Points (yes, shameless plug), I felt this deep calling to align my work with my faith. I believe what we spend our time on should reflect our values. And while Do Good Points isn’t a ā€œChristianā€ company, it’s built on faith-based values like love, service, stewardship, and integrity. That means every decision, interaction, and product is rooted in doing good and reflecting God’s heart.

In this pursuit, I was hungry for more. I started looking for faith-based organizations and communities in NYC. I expected NYC to be overflowing with faith and work-related groups, but I found that a lot of them were… well, siloed. It was hard to figure out where to plug in and meet people. Sound familiar?

That’s me, if we have not had a chance to connect, please say hello next time. =)

Enter Christians in Tech. I didn’t come to NYC to start this thing, but it seems God had other plans.

Here’s how it all came together:

I started showing up at various events, meeting incredible people. There was a SuperMomos happy hour (shout out to Katie and the SuperMomos crew!), an event with FaithTech (thanks to my Faith Driven Entrepreneurs friends for making the intro), and from there, I connected with people like James and Henry, who run a weekly Outpost gathering for faith discussions. God was clearly connecting the dots for me, and I realized something big:

Even in a demanding city like NYC, Christians are hungry for more. More than just Sunday services. More than just church small groups. People want to connect through their professions, faith, and interests. But no one was bringing all these things together.

So… we did.

From our first event in Central Park for NY TechWeek

Our first event was during NYC Tech Week, co-hosted by SuperMomos. We thought, ā€œHey, maybe 30-40 people will show up to Central Park on a Sunday to close out the week.ā€ We were not prepared for what happened next. 250+ people registered—and about 150-200 showed up throughout the day. The second event grew even bigger with a waitlist of over 100 as we hit capacity within 5 days of announcing our follow-up event.

Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, non-denominational Christians, and even unbelievers just curious about faith. We had people from every borough of NYC, representing churches, tech companies, startups, you name it. It was incredible.

It validated that people are hungry for more than just a typical Sunday service. They want spaces to connect, grow, and explore their faith through their work, their community, and their city.

We even had a special performance from musician Peter Chung

The feedback? Amazing. People wanted more. So, I listened. I sent out a survey, and here’s what you told me you wanted to see next:

  1. Singles Mixer (yep, no surprise here). You all want to meet other Christians—outside your church bubble. We got you.

  2. More Networking: An opportunity to connect with Christians in tech (and beyond) who share your values and passions.

  3. Faith & Tech Discussions: People are interested in diving into topics like AI and the Church, and how technology intersects with faith.

So What’s Next?

Our next event is in the works, starting with that Singles Mixer. We’ll also be hosting a networking event and a faith & tech talk (AI and Jesus? Let’s go).

But here’s the thing: this isn’t about throwing cool events. It’s about creating spaces for God to move and for us to connect—with Him, and with each other. This is about growing deeper, learning more, and serving well.

Which brings me to this: if you believe in this vision, if you think this is needed in NYC (and beyond), I’m asking for your help. We need people willing to serve. To step up. To help build this community. Whether you’ve got skills in design, event planning, or just want to lend a hand, we need you.

This is all still a work in progress, and I’m praying for grace as we figure it out. But I believe God is leading us, and I’m trusting in His timing and provision.

My favorite icebreaker question from the mixer event last month

The Ask:

If you think Christians in Tech is something you want to be a part of, invite one friend. Just one. (Or five. Or ten. We’re not picky). Help us spread the word, build the momentum, and see where God takes this. Here is the link: https://christians-in-tech.beehiiv.com/subscribe

Join us for the next event, donate, volunteer, and be a part of this community as we figure out how to bring more of God’s Kingdom to our work, our city, and our lives.

Stay tuned for details on the next event. Until then, let’s keep showing up—because God is already at work. We just need to follow His lead.

Thanks for being a part of this. Let’s see where this goes together.

Blessings,

Andy

This isn’t a replacement for your church or ministry—it’s a way to add to it, help others get connected, and make sure your Sunday isn’t the only holy time in your week.
